PSU has a program called University Studies, which all students are required to take in order to graduate. Instead of taking various electives in whatever department you desire, the University Studies program allows you to take “University Studies” courses in a chosen topic across several university departments. Topics include: African Studies, American Studies, Asian Studies, Medieval Studies, Morality, Popular Culture, Sexualities, Women’s Studies, and many more studies of things. The problem? What about Loser, Spaz, Introvert, Sociopath, Mad Scientist, and Live Action Role-Playing (LARP) Studies? Medieval Studies is the only topic that even comes close.
This biased topic selection seems to favor things that normal people do. This just helps normal people and un-norms alike become more normal. However, it leaves out some important and potentially life-saving lessons that can only be explored in the above mentioned contexts. I would hate to see the day that a PSU Business alumni who concentrated their University Studies on Sexualities is thrust into the middle of a fantasy battle, a goblin at the ready with a +5 scimitar. No amount of heavy petting will disuade that goblin from annihilating its opponent and taking their (perceived) drawstring bag of gold.
It has been quite a while since I’ve posted anything on this site. Today, that changes NOW!
I am posting a post right now, and so, you see, there is new content now.
Self proclaiming “Stinky World - User Submitted Stinky News with free speech,” Stinky World News users have clearly forgotten a thing or two about a thing or two. Namely, what “stinky” means ad in some cases, even what “news” means. This reader updated news site seems to me at best a site of slightly stinkish real news items, and at worst a cheap Hollywood gossip page, featuring such “stinky” items as “Microsoft: The software giant stumbles on its soapbox,” a piece that tells of a “mudslinging spat” between Microsoft and Google in which Microsoft apparently says something hypocritical (is that still news to some people?). The vast majority of stories are more along the lines of, “Boy Band Bonanza!” and “UNCONFIRMED: How many things can Mena Suvari Carry at one time?” I swear to God, I didn’t make that up. That headline is on the page of a “Stinky News” site. Wow. If that’s news, I smell like Lilac Valley Dream. The sites creator seemed to have something else in mind, saying, ” Did you find a stinky story about dirty politics or stinky pictures? Submit it here!” However, her dream has clearly been muddied by the stinky waters of any user based content website. Boy Band Bonanza indeed. You should be ashamed!
